The much-anticipated Mogeely female phenomenon lived up to its name as the sale of the century for breeders Albert and Jennifer DeCogan.
Managed by the Irish Aberdeen Angus Association, the sale witnessed a 100% clearance with average hitting over €7,700. This resulted in the 72 lots grossing over €550,000.
The sale was a timed auction ran on the Irish Aberdeen Angus platform on Marteye. Successful bidders were found in all parts of Ireland, the UK as well as Portugal and Italy. In total 51 of the 220 bidders were successful. This however was only a drop in the ocean to the number of views which hit nearly 85,000!
Leading the way at €20,800 was the six-year-old Mogeely Miylo V647. This daughter of three-time All-Ireland champion Rosemead Karona is out of the top breeding Miylo G863. Her full sister was a prominent show cow claiming reserve female champion at Tullamore show. Carrying a carcase weight figure of 32.9kg she attracted much attention, however when bidding stopped, coming out on top was Cogent Ai and Ai Services NI/Eurogene. This is understood to be the second highest price paid at an auction in Ireland for a female.
This was the peak of what was a massively successful sale in every way, with a massive 11 animals hitting the five-figure mark.
The first-calved two-year-old cow Mogeely Elana Z895 was next in line at €18,300.

A daughter of the herd’s former stock bull Drumbeera Everest U241 and Tomriland Elana R287, this high-index young cow was sold with a promising bull calf at foot and was secured by a new breeder in Cork.
Her maternal sister Tomriland Elana V362 also hit the high notes selling for €9,100. This six-year-old daughter of Liss Matty P491 sold to an Italian breeder.
Two lots achieved €15,200, the first coming in the form of Mogeely Pru U600. This eye-catching daughter of Rosemead Karona goes back to the 20,000gns Cheeklaw Pru S541. Born in 2018, Pru U600 went to auction with her February-born heifer calf at foot and was scanned back in calf to Lisduff Eddard.
Like many of the high sellers, she carries a massive set of beef indices, including a DBI of €169 and a carcase weight figure of 26.5kg. A buyer from Portugal secured this highly attractive lot.
This line proved highly successful on the evening with the remaining family members selling for €11,000 and €10,000 respectively. Mogeely Diana A960 got the hearts racing as the sale ended, selling for €10,400 to a herd in Northern Ireland. Born in March 2024, this Wedderlie Black-box J935 daughter combined many of the herd’s successful stock bulls in Rosemead Karona and Wedderlie Oscalade. Like so many of the high sellers, she carries some impressive beef indices, highlighted by a carcase weight figure of +27.8kg.
A bid of €10,100 secured the January 2023-born Mogeely Lady Blossom Z891 for a herd in Co Kilkenny. A daughter of Laheens Reputation and descending from the famous Belvin Lady Blossoms, this powerful heifer sold in-calf to Driney Wizard.
Mogeely Black Bunny Z905 found new homes at €10,000. Black Bunny is a daughter of Drumbeera Everest going back to the great Knights Blackbird 9Y, and heads to a different breeder in Kilkenny.
Demand for pedigree and commercial Angus cattle has never been as good. As can be seen this demand is not just in Ireland but across Europe as the breed continues to gain a stronger foothold on the market. Animals from the Mogeely sale heading to mainland Europe will do so following the Liss and Lisduff centenary celebration sale on the 9th of August where collective transport will be arranged.
