Quality proved in high demand at the Irish Aberdeen Angus Associations annual spring bull sale in Thurles on April 22nd. The sale seen a record average settling at just shy of €4,645, up a massive €740 on the year.
While dairy purchasers made up of the majority of buyers there was also significant interest from beef herds.
Sale topper Liss Beaut A383 ET was secured by a suckler herd in Co Meath at €5,600. Bred by John and Sean McEnroe, this September 2024 born bull is a son of the homebred Liss Darl and Liss Biluri Y152. He ranked five stars on both the replacement and dairy beef index.
Just behind this at €5,500 was Liosduff Dylan Thomas A041 from Ann McEnroe, Virginia, Co Cavan. This October 2024 born bull is a son of Lisduff Red Lennox Y034 and ranked five stars on a host of traits.
Cork breeders John and Kate Tait sold their sole exhibit, Westellen Fabulous A983, for €5,400. This son of successful AI bull Westellen Diego is out of a Balmachie Rannai bred dam.
Next best at €5,300 was Killea Pageboy B100 from local breeders Henry and Sam Dudley. This well grown January 2025 born bull is sired by the herds former stock bull Antfield V007 and out of the homebred dam Killea Pretty Polly Y821.
The last bull to breach the €5,000 mark was Liss Magic Touch B412 who sold for €5,100. This son of Drumcrow Savoy is out of Mogeely Mylo Y818 and ranked five stars on docility.
The next sale of bulls will be held in Nenagh on April 30th.
