Masreagh production sale

John and Ann McDermott

“Nestled between the ox mountains and the Atlantic ocean, Ann and John Mc Dermott have been breeding pedigree Aberdeen Angus cattle for over three decades.
The Masreagh herd currently consists of over 30 cows, generally 10 autumn calving cows and the balance calving in the spring.

The herd’s primary focus is on breeding uniform balanced cattle meeting breed characteristics, functionality, temperament, an abundant milk supply, locomotion and
physical appearance. No matter how many stars an animal has if its appearance isn’t pleasing to the eye, we don’t think the individual animal merits a place in the herd.

Last autumn we looked at our spring 2025 crop of heifer’s and bulls, we saw some really decent cattle in the mix and decided to offer the entire on a timed auction format on Mart Eye (interested buyer’s are required to submit a “request to bid” through the Mart Eye platform) in conjunction with Ballyjamesduff Mart. In total 30 lots will be catalogued, in addition to the 15 maiden heifer’s and 9 bulls from the spring of 2025, there are three 2024 born bulls and three autumn 2024 heifers, the heifer’s are scanned in calf to Deelish Wingman, to deliver this we have 29 different dams and 10 sires, quite the spread you might say.

We would encourage prospective customers and those with a general interest in breeding to come and view the herd on Saturday March 28 th or Saturday April 4 th between 11am and 3pm both days (F91AC2N) or at other times by arrangement with Ann (0879221215) or John (0876880687).

Of particular interest to some will be the calving age of heifer’s at Masreagh, generally we like to calve under 24 months, of four heifer’s entering the herd this year three are under 24 months, with the youngest calved on February 28th at 20 months, for this to work we aim to have heifer’s at 410-420 kgs at service but also to have the necessary growth and maturity to complete the programme successfully.

Following the sale delivery arrangements will be organised to mid points in the South West, South East, North East and Donegal. Exports to Northern Ireland will be subject to T.B. test and normal export clearance. What ever else you get from a visit to Masreagh we believe you will witness a really solid pedigree herd and stunning scenery for good measure.”
