The Munster Aberdeen Angus club again hosted their timed Munster Marvels auction in November. The sale proved a huge success with average, clearance rate and top prices all increasing.
A €5,000 top price set a new record for the sale which celebrated its second year.
This price was actually hit on two occasions first io the female section and then in the newly added male section.
Leading the way in the females was Mercury Red Jody Z924 the property of John and Shane Murphy, Banteer, Co Cork. This stylish 10-month-old heifer is sired by the herds former stock bull, Ivale Red Vincent and out of the homebred Coraghy Steel bred dam Mercury Jody Y883. Securing the young heifer was an upcoming red breeder from Co. Carlow.
Matching the price was the top of the males, Luddenmore Fable Z603 from Dr Michael Sheahan. This long clean bull was born April 2023 and garnered a lot of attention before falling to a pedigree breeder in Northern Ireland. Sired by the herds former stock bull Drumhill Exeter V105, he is out a homebred dam from the famous Fleur line.
Just behind this with a call of €4,900 was the February 2023 born Lemonfield Black Rose Z166 from Donogh and Jane McCarthy, Crecora, Co Limerick. This daughter of homebred AI sire Lemonfield Uxas is out of the first calving Lemonfield Black Rose X109. A line of stars and in calf to Lemonfield Ferdinand, she was secured by a Portuguese buyer.
The same buyer also forked out €4,200 for Dulague Blackcap Essence Z359 from Richie Lombard, Castleisland, Co Kerry. This daughter of proven stock bull Stairhaven Red Ernie is out of a SAV Harvester daughter from a former Miss World.
Top of John and Kate Taits offering was a call of €3,900 for Westellen Myrlo Z947. This September 2023 born heifer is sired by Rawburn Boss Hogg and carried five stars down the line. She was secured by a Westmeath breeder. Just behind this at €3,800 was her stable mate Westellen Patriot Y941. This heavy in calf heifer is sired by Dunard Navigator and also boasted a page of stars. She found a new home in the sunny southeast.
Taking a bid of €3,700 was Mercury Ellen Ercia Z913 who came from the aforementioned Murphy duo. This heifer is a daughter of McCornick paramount who also bred last months Extravaganza record breaker. She heads up to Co Mayo.
Top of Michael Dullea’s offering was a call of €3,600 for Deelish W Pretty Plooy 1056. This Rawburn Bannockburn heifer is out of a maternal sister to successful AI bull Deelish Shotgun. This one also heads west, finding a new home in Galway.
Back to the bulls and next in line was a bid of €3,500 for Westellen Black Bear Z958 from the Tait outfit. This multi stared Prohurst Eoghan son heads to a pedigree herd in Co Mayo.
Overall, the sale proved a massive success with five more heifers selling on the year and female average rising by €410 to settle at €3,030.
The newly added male section seen three bulls sell to average €3,833.
