The Kilkenny Agricultural show society hosted the first of their 2024 bull sales on 20th March. Trade throughout proved strong with prices reaching a ceiling of €5,400 and average sale price hitting an impressive €3,794.
Leading the way and taking the three top prices on the day was the Luddenmore herd of Dr Michael Sheahan.
Sale topper came in the form of Luddenmore Virtue who hit the market at €5,400. This son of senior stock bull Drumhill Exeter carried a massive carcase figure of over 24kg.
Exeter was also the sire behind the second top priced lot, Luddenmore Vivaldi. This five-star terminal bull had a carcase figure of 19kg and secured a final bid of €5,200.
Finishing his run was Luddenmore Vlad who met his reserve at €4,700. This son of Friarstown Evolver added to a hugely successful day for the Cappawhite breeder who averaged an impressive €5,100.
Securing the championship on the day was Drumcrow Victorious who was the property of Margaret McKiernan. This son of the homebred Drumcrow Prosecco T714 attracted a flurry of bids before settling at €4,600.
The days reserve champion, Coolrain Viceroy, was just behind this at €4,500. This HW Farghal T516 son was bred by Nigel Peavoy. This topped an exceptional day for Laois breeder who also got his second exhibit, Coolrain Volvo, away at €4,200 and a third at €4,000.
A further six bulls also hit the €4,000 mark.
