€5,000 tops April Kilkenny sale

It was a slightly trickier trade in Kilkenny for their April sale with the prolonged cattel housing and feeding period certainly eating into buyer’s budgets. That said eight bulls did manage to hit the €4,000 or more mark to a top of €5,000.

Securing the top bid was Bunlahy Venture Capital Et from Aiden and David Reynolds, Ballinalee, Co Longford. This son of Carrigroe Mr Rebel is a full brother to the female sale topper at the 2022 Extravaganza. Carrying a carcase figure of double the breed average he was secured by a pedigree breeder.

Next in line was Corlismore Vosigen 221 from Sean and Gary McKiernan, Co Cavan. This double five-star son of Fordel Lockdown met his reserve at €4,500.

The €4,400 price was hit on two occasions. First at the money was Shane McKiernan with Drumcarbin Viking Warrior. Born September 2022, he was sired by Clooncolligan Exotic.

This topped a super day for the Cavan native who also presented the reserve champion bull, Drumcarbin Vancouver. This five-star son of Carrington Park Time On B7 met his reserve at €3,900.

The second bull to hit the €4,400 mark was Listrolin Valentino from local breeder Patrick Rohan. This Drumcrow Savoy son was out of a Netherton Mr Brazilian bred dam.

Securing the overall championship on the day was Newbridge Vinny from Brendan and Edel McCawley. This September 2022 born bull is sired by the herds stock bull Lanigan Red Lombard and out of a Nakkeg Nord bred cow. After a flurry of bids, he met his reserve at €4,200

Overall 63% of the bulls on over sold to an average price of €3,554.
