Average hits over €3,700 in Kilkenny

The Kilkenny Agricultural Society held their 48th Annual April Show & Sale of bulls on Wednesday 12 April. There was 58 Aberdeen Angus bulls catalogued, and 42 bulls were presented for sale. Out of the 42 bulls 28 bulls found new homes representing a 67% clearance.

An average price of €3,739 was achieved. An impressive 93% of bulls sold for €3,000 or more.

The pre-sale show was judged by Sean Kikenny of the Newstar Herd. His choice for champion on the day was the October 2021 born Liscolvin Ulyesses 1447 from Martin Garvey, Carrick on Shannon, Co. Roscommon. Ulyesses boasted an excellent page of figures alongside a carcass weight figure of 19.6kg which is over double the breed average. The champion and sale topper sold for €5,100.

The reserve champion of the day came in the form of Portanes Umberto. The August 2021 Liss Mandrin V847 son was bred by Laurence & John Lynch, Kilmallock, Co. Limerick, Umberto boasted a high replacement value of €135 and met his reserve at €4,200.

Continuing Garvey’s success was Liscolvin Urban who sold for the second highest price of €5,000. This October 2021 born son of Mogeely Frederic V659 sold with an attractive 5-star replacement index and a whopping carcass weight of 20kg.

Next into the money was Clonbroney Ulra Vision for Liam Foley Co. Longford. This October 2021 bull carried a Dairy Beef Index of €109. Vincent changed hands at €4,900.

Following on from the March sale Succes was Nigel Peavoy from Laois. Coolrain Uncle Sam changed hands at €4,700. This September 2021 Intelagri Matteo son boasted an attractive Dairy Beef Index value of €147 and a whopping replacement index value of €151.

Peavoy’s second entry into the money was Coolrain Uncle this September 2021 HF Rebel 53y son was sold for €4,500.

It was the turn of Shane McKiernan Co. Cavan to hit the money next with Drumcarbin Up and Over this Loughlynn Hum Dinger son born in September 2021 was sold for €4,300. Up and Over carried an impressive Replacement index of €143 and a Dairy Beef Index of €133.

Lisduff Docker X960 from Leo McEnroe Co. Cavan found a new home at €4,100, This August 2021 Liss Boggins V915 son boasted an appealing calving ease figure of +2% in addition to a Dairy Beef Index of €133

The first of two bulls to sell for €4,000 was Listrolin U good thing form Patrick Rohan Co. Kilkenny. The July 2021 Rawburn Jagger Eric son had an impressive 5-star rating for both Replacement and Terminal Indexes.

Next to hit the €4,000 mark was Luddenmore Urban Legend from Limerick based breeder Dr Michael Sheahen, This August 2021 born son of Friarstown Evolver N271 boasted impressive carcass figures with a carcass weight of 18.5kg over double the breed average and five stars for carcass conformation.

Nigel Peavoy Co. Laois  hit the money again with Coolrain Usher parting ways at €3,900. Usher carried one of the highest Dairy Beef Index values of the day at a whopping €160.

The second of two Liss Bear P487 sons on offer from the Liss herd of John & Sean McEnroe Co. Meath was Liss Mortal X088, This August 2021 son sold for €3800.
Mortal carried a very appealing calving +1.3%.
