Aberdeen Angus bulls soar to 9,000gns twice at Perth bull sales

The Aberdeen Angus was the first breed to come under the hammer during the three-day multi-breed beef bull sales, hosted by United Auctions at its Stirling complex.

Prices soared to 9,000gns twice, and 42 bulls changed hands to level at £4,650 – an increase of over £470 on the same period last year. Read more >>>

Farming is a labour of love for beef and sheep producer Tynan Roulston from  Strabane, but he is firmly focused on profitability and the importance  of sustaining a decent living without having to rely on his single farm  payment.

The County Tyrone-based farmer farms more than 400 acres which  comprises of lowland and hill rising to 800ft above sea level. His main  enterprises are a 120-cow suckler herd and a flock of 80 commercial  ewes. Read more >>>

25th October 2011: Dungannon champion tops trade at 3500gns and sells to Scotland

Aberdeen-Angus bulls led the way securing a top price of 3500gns at the annual autumn native breeds show and sale, hosted by Dungannon  Farmers’ Mart on Monday 24th October.

Trade was underpinned by commercial suckler producers and at the end  of the day’s trading auctioneer Trevor Wylie reported that 14 bulls  changed hands to average £2040 “ an increase of almost £170 on this time last year and with three more bulls sold. Read more >>>

13th Octboer 2011: NI Club launch the autumn Angus Classic

The Northern Ireland Aberdeen Angus Club this week launched  their annual calf, yearling and young handlers show in the picturesque  Clogher Valley. The launch of this Aberdeen-Angus spectacular took the  form of a meet and greet between event sponsors and club committee  members with an opportunity for club members to learn a little more  about the sponsors business and for the sponsors to gain some knowledge  about one of the most prestigious and reputable breeds of cattle in the  world. 4th October 2011: Successful YDP Finals in Midleton, Co. Cork

Both Southern and Northern Irish YDP members dominated the success stories at this year’s Grand Final which was fitting seeing as the venue this year was staged at The Paddocks Equestrian Centre, Midleton, Co Cork, in the Republic of Ireland. Read more >>>

31st AUGUST 2011: YDP members on top form at NI Commercail Cattle Exhibitors Club Summer Spectacular

At the 7th annual N.I. Commercial Cattle Exhibitors Club Summer  Spectacular held at the Balmoral showground, it was definitely a case of YDP memebers leading the way.

The proceedings kicked off with the young handler classes where  competitors were put through their paces by David Connolly from the  Brigadoon Charolais herd in Saintfield. The under 12 section was won by  Sam Matchett and in the 12 to 16 year old section Jack Smyth was awarded  second prize. Read more >>>

25th August 2011: Great turnout for YDP workshop in Northern Ireland

Thankfully for the participants in Northern Ireland I didn’t  have to do the training at their workshop! Continuing an impressive winning run of the last two years Owen  and Angela McFadden stood top of the line at Tullamore this week for the AIB National Show with their senior bull Blelack Elijah who won the  senior bull class, male championship and overall breed championship. Read more >>>

14th August 2011: New trainers prove a hit for Munster workshop

When I started the year I had it all planned out, I knew the  trainers I wanted to use and had been offered some great locations for  workshops, but as usual all the best laid plans usually go pear shaped!

The location was not a problem as Michael Sheahan had kindly offered  to host the workshop at Luddemore, Co Limerick. I had heard of the  Luddenmore Angus most recently when their breeding won the male  championship at the Highland Show this year. The facilities on offer  were superb and the ample quiet cattle were all thanks to farm manager  George Doyle and stockman Brando Kollat. Read more >>>

In the recently judged NI Aberdeen Angus Club annual herd  competition, kindly sponsored by Northern Bank, it was definitely a case that females are best.
