February 2012: Dungannon trade tops at 4000gns for bulls

Aberdeen-Angus bulls sold to a top of 4000gns in Dungannon earlier today with 18 out of the 20 forward finding new homes.

Aberdeen Angus sale topper at 4,000gns was the third prize winning Kiltariff  Duke K326 shown by Kenneth Bready, and son Steven, from Rathfriland.

Sale leader was the third place Kiltariff Duke K326 from Co  Down-based Kenneth Bready. This one is a son of Nightingale Proud Jake  G405 and is out of the BJ’s No Limits daughter Kiltariff Dynasty H164  and sold carrying a milk figure of +15, a TI of +30 and a SRI of +40.  Buyer was James Thompson from Culmore, County Londonderry.

Alan Cheney's male champion Lana Easy K721 sold for 3,600gns.

First to share the next highest price of 3600gns was the pre-sale  show champion Lana Easy K721 from Alan Chaney. Born March 2010, this one is by Blackhaugh Easy Papa G728 and is out of the DMM Distinction 17G  daughter, Newpark Wonder. He has a TI of +36 and a SRI of +49, along  with +10 for milk. He was knocked down to Colin Maxwell from Clough,  Downpatrick, County Down.

Also at that money, Kenneth Veitch sold Drumlone Europa K557, a  September 2010-born son of the 36,000gns The Moss Mr Eshton D409 out of  the Highland colossal 101E daughter Drumlone Essy G702. He has a TI of  +30 and a SRI of +40. Buyer was John Loughrin from Sandholes, near  Cookstown, County Tyrone.

Next in the money were two bulls selling for 3500gns, the first of  which was Richhill Bouncer K401 from Robin Lamb and Family who was sold  to Thomas Hamill from Downpatrick, County Down. Born March 2010, this  one is a son of HI Diamond Greenstone out of the Bronte Linton daughter  Richhill Black Janet D474. The Lamb family also sold Richhill Black John K456, an April 2010-born Richhill Dynasty H126 son for 3000gns to H  Cleland, Downpatrick, County Down.

Also at 3500gns was Coltrim Lord James K597 from Neville Forsythe. By the herd stock sire Wedderlie Net Profit E916, he is out of the  Kitariff Dynamic D711 daughter Coltrim Lady Jane H772 and has a milk  figure of +13, a TI of +31 and a Sri of +46. This one was knocked down  to Turlough McAlister from Cushendall, County Antrim.

The second prize winning Coltrim Everest K531 came under the hammer at 3,300gns for Ivan and Diane Forsythe, Moneymore.

From the same home, Coltrim Everest K531 exchanged hands at 3300gns.  Again by Net Profit, he is out of a homebred Coltrim Pedro daughter and  was snapped up by James McCracken who runs 140 cows at Bellarena, County Londonderry.

At 2900gns Alan and Carol Armour and Sons, Co Down, sold Woodvale New Era, a son of Woodvale Mr Awesome E207 out of the Hoff Limited Edition  daughter Friarstown Neonia H074, while the day’s reserve breed champion  Tamneymullan Juryman K777 from Robert Sufferin went at 2600gns to  William Henry from Gravagh, County Londonderry. This one is by Ranui W  Impact 762 and out of Baronagh Joanna D874, who is a daughter of  Gigginstown Tuco.

The female champion was Ballygannon Gay which realised 1700gns for Kenneth Veitch, Lisbellaw.

In the female ring the female champion from Kenneth Veitch has sold  at 1700gns to H Cleland, Downpatrick. Born May 2010, Ballygannon Gay is  by the Canadian sire KBJ Jetta 6D out of Lochgarman Unite, while the  reserve heifer from John Lawrence sold at 1600gns to Jim Donaldson, Co  Armagh.  April 2010-born Carmean Ester K266 is a daughter of Woodvale  Total G616 out of a Cheeklaw Eirwyn D165 daughter.

John Lawrence, Magherafelt, exhibited the reserve female champion Carmean Ester K266 which sold for 1,600gns.

Also selling at 1600gns was the fourth prize winning Eden Vale Elisa  K581 bred by Mike Frazer of the Templepatrick-based Bruces Hill Cattle  Co. Born in August 2010 she is by the herd’s 7600gns stock bull Clougher Enoch and is out the Woodvale Exclusive E141 daughter, Ashvale Ersal.  Buyer was ten-year-old Alex Cleland who plans to establish a pedigree  Aberdeen Angus herd on the family’s County Down dairy farm.

Four heifers sold to average £1,549 per head.

A reduction sale from the Whistlinthorns herd owned by Alan Wells,  Portadown, County Armagh, reached a ceiling of 1400gns. Sale leader was  the four-year-cow with calf at foot, Whistlinthorns Mayflower H482, by  the Fordel Eisenhower Y423 son, Liss Best Man. Buyer was P Owens,  Ballygawley, County Tyrone.

Next best at 1,080gns was the April 2008 born Whistlinthorns  Mayflower H537. She is by the Rawburn Transformer son, Liss Bonny Man  F707, and was snapped up by John Best from Poyntzpass.

Nine cows from the Whistlinthorns herd sold to average £993 each.

18 bulls sold for £2806 (Dungannon Farmers Mart).

Female, born between 15/04/10 and 09/04/11 – 1, and female champion, Kenneth Veitch, Lisbellaw, Ballygannon Gay by KBJ Jetta 64D; 2, and reserve female champion, John Lawrence, Magherafelt, Carmean Ester K266 by Woodvale Total G616; 3, Mike Frazer, Bruces Hill Cattle Co, Templepatrick, Eden Vale Miss P K441 by Netherton Fleur’s Legacy F390.
