Welcome to the website for the Irish Aberdeen-Angus Association. Here you will find useful information about council members and duties, show and sale dates and reports, as well as any other interesting events coming up in your area.

The association was set up in 1894 with the principle aim of promoting Aberdeen-Angus cattle throughout the island of Ireland.  There are now 600 breeder members registering Angus cattle with the Aberdeen-Angus Cattle Society.

Bruces Hill takes championship at Balmoral

p 0166Judge Tom Arnott of the Haymount herd, Kelso, took centre stage in the Aberdeen-Angus judging ring at Balmoral Show on Monday and tapped out Bruces Hill Cattle Company’s senior cow Rawburn Julie Erica F526 as his overall champion.

Born March 2006, she is a Rawburn Lord Ross daughter out of Rawburn Julie Erica Z026 and was purchased by Ballyclare, Co Antrim-based owner Mike Frazer, Ballyclare, Co Antrim for 14,000gns from the Best of the Blacks sale. Read more >>>

 

 

 

April 17th 2012: Champion leads Dungannon sale prices at 4800gns

Aberdeen-Angus bulls reached a top price of 4800gns at yesterday’s (17th April 2012) native breeds show and sale, held at Dungannon Farmers’ Mart.

Bidding was selective from start to finish, with auctioneer Trevor  Wylie reporting that eight bulls changed hands to level at £2618 a head. Read more >>>

Ryanair chief executive Michael O’ Leary held his biennial  Gigginstown House Production Sale of bulls and females on Saturday 7th  April, an event which attracted a lot of interest from breeders from  across the UK and Ireland and saw a top price of €4500 and an average of €2253.07 for the 39 lots sold. Dairy farmers turned out in force for the Munster Aberdeen Angus  Club Annual High Health Status Bull Sale in Bandon Mart last Wednesday  where judge Edwin Jeffery awarded the championship to Stanley Deane’s,  Dundaniel Lord Janak K187,  a son of his stock bull Carraigh Dubh  Phantom out of the Bohey Jasper daughter Dundaniel Lady Jennifer. Saturday’s sale of Aberdeen-Angus cattle at Roscrea, Co  Tipperary topped at €5800 for the overall champion Westellan Dominator  K707 from John and Kate Tait, Midleton, Co Cork.By Jerusalem Faraday  C071, this December 2010 born bull is out of the Gigginstown Rolls Royce daughter Liss Dana E680. March 2012: Aberdeen-Angus Cattle Society Youth Development Programme prepares for fantastic workshops in Ireland

The Aberdeen-Angus Cattle Society’s industry leading Youth Development Programme has now set dates for training workshops in both the Republic and Northern Ireland for the summer.

The programme, which is led by co-ordinator Gayle Bersey, is for young cattle enthusiasts from 8 to 24 years of age and is aimed at teaching the participants all the essential stock handling skills needed if they intend to work with cattle in the future. Read more >>>
